About this deal

Because only one of the colours can be "on" at any given time, it is a foul to first hit multiple colours at the same time, or pot more than one colour (unless a free ball has been awarded; see below). To perform a topspin, line up the cue ball with the object ball and aim to hit it just above the center.

The first modern pool ball construction with a material called Bakelite. Bakelite was the most popular construction material and most pool balls were made that way by the 1920’s. If a player pots one or more of their balls on their turn, or any ball on the break, they get to make another shot, provided they also did not commit a foul. A ball with wear may not hit another one cleanly, which can send it in a different direction than intended When playing from baulk, both for the break shot and as the incoming player if the cue ball has been potted off the break, the cue ball must be placed with it's centre point either on or behind the line. The purpose of these balls is to help teach spin effects and learn to control the cue ball, and they usually come in both advanced and beginner styles.

Bumper pool requires four white and four red object balls, and two special balls, one red with a white spot and the other white with red spot; all are usually 2 + 1⁄ 8 inches (54mm) in diameter. Bar billiards uses six or seven white balls (depending on regional variations) and one red ball 1 + 7⁄ 8in (48mm) in diameter.
