About this deal

The Tenor fits my face better than the Soprano, which -- as its name implies -- Bose is aiming at women who like oversized sunglasses (my daughter likes them). As for AR applications, I admit I didn’t spend a ton of time with them, namely because my primary phone runs Android (hint). I could very easily work these into my daily routine without too much effort, and I love seeing boundaries being pushed in the “headphone” space.

Because there's nothing in your ears, people will really think you're talking to yourself, but I undoubtedly got a certain feeling of freedom from not having anything in my ears, even something as light as the AirPods. There’s a choice of two frames: the larger, squarer Alto (as tested) and the smaller, rounder Rondo. That’s what makes Bose’s Frames — headphones/sunglasses you might actually want to wear — so special. My ears basked in lovely tunes, even as the wind whipped by, raising the moment from sweet to sparkling, including a significant moment of reflection at a stoplight listening to Father John Misty’s rendition of Gillian Welch’s Everything is Free. they're not far off -- they sound better than any audio sunglasses I've tried previously, with just enough bass to avoid sounding tinny. Crank them up beyond 85% volume and you start to hear distortion, but they pretty loud by that point. Your product remembers the last several devices it connected to so it can quickly reconnect to them. The one thing they’re missing is volume control, so you’ll be reaching for your phone for that, which is a shame.

The more rounded Rondo style is designed for smaller heads, while the more squarish Alto is suited for those with larger heads. This means you’re able to keep your ears and head free of anything but your pair of sunglasses, while still being able to listen to music, podcasts or audiobooks. The Tempo model is the best of the bunch -- and for that reason, we're awarding that model an Editors' Choice. Bose had to design tiny speakers to fit into the arms of the Frames from scratch, along with some proprietary tech that, Bose promises, directs 99% of the sound to the wearer’s ears, with only 1% leaked. Bose reps told me their engineers learned from working on the company's earlier horseshoe-shaped wearable, the SoundWear Companion Speaker, and were able to reduce the amount of sound leakage in the Frames as a result.

Depending on your product and region, you will be provided a contact number or the ability to setup service online. For millions of people across the country, the two tech items you can pretty much count on finding in most pockets, purses, and backpacks at any give time are a phone and a pair of wireless earbuds. Hopefully, this could be improved with a future firmware update, but it could well be one of the physical limitations of this wearable release. In addition, this device delivers an amazingly wide stereo field, with the feeling that the audio is playing around you, rather than funnelled into your ear.

They're a little harder to use in noisy environments because your ears are open to the world, but I could mostly hear people well and they said they could hear me clearly with little background noise leaking in. They're definitely worth trying if they pique your interest and I found the Tempo appealing for running and biking despite looking goofy when I wore them. Listening to your tunes while still being able to hear the great outdoors while sitting in the garden or park in brilliant sunshine is thoroughly enjoyable. It should be easy to find compatible AR apps when more are added, as the Bose Connect app highlights them almost instantly. The midrange response is full and blooming full of body, and the spatial separation between left and right channels is eerily wide. When you turn them on and off, you’ll be greeted with the battery amount in audio form, but it doesn’t offer a way to monitor how much charge is left over visually from the glasses themselves. This is the company that patented noise cancellation, after all, and creating functioning headphones in a pair of sunglasses you feel good about wearing is its own impressive feat. Things like fit, style, portability, and even color are important factors because if you're going to spend your hard-earned money, they'd better suit your lifestyle. The Bose Frames were unveiled in early 2019, and we don’t currently expect to see any new designs or generations of the sunglasses any time soon.
