About this deal

After the success of Icehouse, Looney Labs created an easy-to-learn card game which was fun to play, and so Fluxx was born! They have no custom theme to speak of and instead rely on common human experience ideas and cultural themes such as Love, Money, Time, Sleep, and Cookies.

A handful of Keepers and their related Goals were removed, a couple added, and other cards added in their place. For non-Fluxx fans, you’ll be happy to know that the board game offers a bit more control over your destiny. There are also versions of Fluxx that have been released using entirely different themed sets of cards while playing by the same set of rules. Even the object of the game will often change as you play, as players swap out one Goal card for another. The Basic Rules card decrees the opening rules of the game: on a turn players will (a) Draw one card and then (b) Play one card.

These included Creeper cards that block or make goals more difficult to obtain; [10] Ungoal cards, which have conditions where the game ends with no winner; [12] and Surprise cards, a 2011 addition, which allow players to negate other types of cards which could prevent a victory and can be played at any time, though they have other effects when played on one's own turn.

The rest of you can enjoy yourselves as the game spins out of his control (as it surely will) and perhaps he'll eventually learn to lose gracefully. One card, the "Basic Rules" has a distinctive back that makes it easy to pick out; the other 83 cards are mixed together as a single deck. Rick Loomis comments: " Fluxx makes a good game for a group that has one of those annoying 'I-must-win-every-game' types. The Fluxx card game has earned the Mensa Select Award for games that meet Mensa’s high standards of originality, playability and design.

The overall number of cards stayed the same at 84, but the ratio changed to the following: 21 Actions, 23 Goals, 18 Keepers, 21 New Rules, 1 Basic Rules card. Two variants were re-released on March 5, 2010, EcoFluxx and Family Fluxx, with Eco being a new edition. There's some randomness, but there's also some real strategy in the game, as you can sometimes manipulate the play of Rule cards to force other players to play cards that will allow you to win.
