About this deal

It might still be early on in his career, but the author seems to have perfected the art of the slow reel, starting leisurely and pulling you in, building up the tension, before yanking you to the edge of your seat. He's been in a rock 'n' roll band, playing the double bass, travelled the USA and lived in Canada for a time. While the threat from the original series may have been stopped, new dangers have arisen over the course of 100 years as various factions war for control of the entire realm.

I didn’t care for the element of mystery surrounding his past, I would have appreciated just knowing ahead of time where he was raised, at least knowing as the reader even if the character himself didn’t know this. So series extensions usually means taking a huge risk, because if you as an author messed up the extension, it would mess the original series too which sucks! I buddy read all his books with my friend Devin, and we decided we wanted to wait until book two was about to come out to read book one because we didn’t want to have to wait (knowing how John Gwynne is). It’s safe to say that my experience reading this book was enhanced immensely because of my knowledge on the world of the Banished Lands. He is the author of the epic fantasy series The Faithful and the Fallen including Malice , Valour , Ruin and Wrath .I highly suggest everyone reads this book, but you really do have to read the four Faithful and the Fallen books before diving into these. To do a bit of comparison, neither of my two other favorite authors—Brandon Sanderson and Joe Abercrombie—earned this perfect streak.

The story places readers within the Land of the Faithful approximately 120 years after the conclusion of the novel Wrath, which was an epic, brutal, and fulfilling climax to one of my favourite ever fantasy series. The world is rich and complex, but you never feel lost or find yourself desperately reaching for a map. John Gwynne really is hands down an amazing fantasy author and you’re really missing out if you haven’t read anything by him yet.I live on the south coast of the UK with my beautiful wife, three sons and my daughter, and an assortment of animals (at the moment three dogs, a horse and a lamb who thinks she’s a dog).
