About this deal

The writing was fantastic, the pace of the story perfect for this kind of read and overall the story had a realistic vibe that made me think and almost gave me the chills. We have a lot of paintings on the walls of our sitting room but people are usually drawn towards the large red canvas that hangs above the fireplace. BUT I get the whole syndrome, the awful cycle that kicks in within a marriage of THIS kind, so she’s forgiven indeed.

While maintaining a persona as a brilliant and kind lawyer, Jack makes his marriage to Grace seem perfect by forcing her to appear doting and lovely in public with his friends. At first the fact the events from the past happened only a year before the events from the preset seemed a little odd to me, but as the story progressed I ended up liking this aspect.I am sure there are couples out there that get on very well, but the appearance of Jack and Grace and how they both conduct themselves in the public eye is nothing far from awesomeness. That all said, Paris's exploration of a convoluted, complex world of domestic abuse gives rise to what is becoming more and more apparent is a very hidden issue.

I should thank Shelby for sending this to me, but I kind of feel like she April Fooled me a month late. But on the couple’s wedding day Millie suffered from a terrible slip and fall down the stairs breaking her leg and removing her from the wedding festivities entirely (*dun dun dunnnnnnnnn*). I don't want to detract from the wonderful work you do, but there is often physical evidence, or witnesses, are there not?No, I really CAN'T say how I feel about him, because it would set me off on a rant, and I'd probably give the whole darn plot away! And if you're wondering how someone like Grace Angel was able to survive her ordeal without succumbing to insanity, derangement or perhaps even suicide, I implore you to look into the case of Bowe Bergdahl.

I begin to ask Esther all the right questions: if she has settled into the area, if she was sorry to leave Kent behind, if her two children have settled into their new school. Yes, I was originally sold on it by the plotline description and the number of five star reviews it had received, but if I had started to read the much smaller number of really negative reviews first, I would never have picked up the novel in the first place, and that would have been a shame.I couldn't be sure for instance whether the story was set in the UK or the USA - the description of Jack as this "celebrated lawyer" who defends battered women in court and has "never lost a case yet" sounds more LA than London.

That slip-up might be cause for further questioning from some people (most Brits I know wouldn't even bother and would just let this slide), but Esther's leap from A to Z with no other evidence or explanation in between is ridiculously implausible. She is later forced to move into a smaller room, is deprived of food, and has to spend a few nights in the horrible basement that is painted top to bottom in red. Between the breakneck pacing and the emotional nature of the read (Grace's love for her sister with Down's syndrome is particularly heart-wrenching), my eyes were glued to the pages. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Behind Closed Doors” is a gripping, thought-provoking thriller with some psychological and mystery elements that will keep you at the edge of your seat.
