About this deal

You can come up with a story idea that is funny and entertaining by taking a classic story and twisting it around.

To do this, you can include comparison jokes in your dialogue, particularly in the dialogue of your main character or characters. But at the same time, you'll notice a river of sadness and yearning lurking just under the surface of her stories; the women at the heart of them tend grin in a slightly glassy-eyed way, attempting to make absolutely no waves whatsoever despite being cramped by the strictures of the society they live in. The narrator's voice is perfect - slangy and wise-cracking - and there are some wonderful set-pieces too, including an excruciating encounter with a prostitute, wonderful rants about acting and the cinema and 'phoniness'. For example, you may try to keep the number of jokes in your writing to one to two a page so your reader has time to enjoy the other aspects of your writing besides just the humor. Then, they learn that they’re instead being taken to a laser tag arena, where everyone dutifully complies, even though they’re in heels, suits, etc. It should be enjoyed in private, where you can laugh, scream and dribble at your pleasure, without fear of being arrested. But we also use serious as an antonym for funny, which can mislead us into assuming that a good book shouldn’t make us laugh.
