About this deal

Value for Money: I compared the features, performance, and price point of each scarifier and rated their value for money accordingly. If your garden is on the small side, or if you’re only seeking a lawn scarifier (without the aerator) then it may not be worth splurging on Hyundai’s 2-in-1 Lawn Scarifier. However, I consider this the best lawn scarifier and aerator machine overall. It’s definitely a good option for medium or large gardens. Width of the cutting blade helps reduce the time spent using the lawn scarifier and helps save time and energy in the long term. There are variations of scarifiers on the market, you could opt for a simple garden rake or a manual scarifier with wheels if you want to do it by hand. Though many gardens are quite big and it can be a tough job by hand, so we recommend using an electric scarifier for small to medium gardens and a petrol scarifier for larger gardens.

The grass box on the Bosch ALR 900 does seem to be a little flimsy which is surprising for Bosch, having said that it does not seem to affect the performance in any way. I believe the collection box feels a little flimsy as it comes in two parts. Bosch have done this to reduce the storage space required for the collection box as it can be split into two sides when not in use. For this reason, I think it’s a great machine if you want a scarifier at a budget-friendly price; however, consider another option if the aerating function is also important to you. You’ll probably have to spend a bit more to get a machine that’s a better all-rounder. The AL-KO 38E comes with five different cutting depths suitable for handling different types of tasks. Plus, it has a highly responsive height adjustment dial with various height settings that lets you raise or lower the cutting depth, depending on your preferences. In addition to its unique PowerDrive System, this scarifier has also been fitted with a Jet-Collect System. According to Bosch, this allows for innovative airflow management, meaning that the box will always fill completely, without getting clogged. It’s a nice touch in theory, and it’s true that the machine never clogged, with the box completely filling each and every time. However, this applied to most of the scarifiers that I tested, and none of those had a special system to allow for this, so I wouldn’t say that this was a huge selling point. Lawn Rake and Aerator

Why do you need a lawn scarifier?

The Weibang WB384RB Push Petrol Lawn Scarifier is powered by a 163cc Briggs & Stratton 750 engine which makes it well worth considering for professional use. The purpose of a lawn rake is to free your lawn from moss, weeds, thatch and leaves, and I can honestly say that once you have used an electric lawn rake you will wonder how you ever managed without one. To give you some guidance on which type of customer would suit this model best, below I’ve got a list of the categories they would fall under:

From its colours to its design, this is very clearly a Bosch product. Yes, it’s made from plastic, but it still feels strong and durable. With a width of 32 cm and four different height settings (+10mm to -5mm), its design gives it great versatility. The AL-KO 38 P is a petrol-powered lawn scarifier that is quite effective in getting rid of weed plants, thatch, and moss from large lawns in large gardens. It might be the best lawn scarifier from AL-KO. Lawn sands can be used, as they contain granules of ferrous sulphate (sulphate of iron) that directly kills moss. However, lawn sand can also discourage earthworms and should be used with discretion – to level low areas, cover exposed tree roots and fix particularly heavy thatch build-up. The sand particles contain no nutrients, so applying layers year after year will eventually reduce your soil’s fertility, as will excessive application of pesticides. The scarifier roller attachment uses strong steel blades to penetrate into the soil to remove weeds and pull out deep embedded thatch and moss from the lawn. The blades penetrating the soil also aerate the soil, which lets in moisture and nutrients down as far as the grass roots system.

AVR 1100 Verticutter

Now on to how to use this scarifier. It looks like a regular rake but on wheels, so it’s very simple. When you push it forwards it uses a pendulum action to lift the teeth or tines off the lawn, and when you pull it towards you the pendulum action lowers the tines into the lawn and removes the moss and thatch from the lawn. This scarifier leaves all this debris in a small pile of moss and thatch for you collect later (just like a regular rake does).
