Besides white, blue could very well be one of the top chalk paint/chalk style paint colors for furniture flips and home décor projects. While I personally love the blue-greens, these straight up blue shades are stunning. Our Chalk Paint is a water-based, eco-friendly furniture paint with a high pigment content. It has a matte, tactile, chalky feel finish but without any residue.

Step 6: Start painting! I wish I had taken more photos of this process but once you start it is hard to stop. Stir your pot of Fusion Mineral paint well. Dip your brush tip into the pot of paint. Understand that a little goes a very long way. The first coat should be a thin, light coat of paint. Do NOT over dip! You want a small amount of paint on your brush. Paint shouldn’t be dripping off your brush all over the place. Oh my the controversy! To paint good wood furniture or not is the question that draws DIY enthusiasts into their separate corners. I have stripped and refinished furniture and also painted furniture and frankly, all my choices have turned out fabulous in my humble opinion. My husband is in the “never paint wood furniture” camp so every project is potentially an internal family battle. Giving our master bedroom dresser a makeover was no exception. Reseal tin after use. Clean up any spills immediately with water. Wash brushes in warm, soapy water. For the ultimate flawless finish, use a velour roller. You will achieve a smooth and long-lasting professional look across all of your upcycled furniture. Did you know?

What is the best furniture to upcycle with chalk paint? The honest answer is any wooden furniture which you have within your home, especially if the tint of the wood has faded and it looks as though it could do with a varnish or some general tender loving care. Chalk and mineral paint formulated for wooden furniture. Also suitable for laminate, powder coated radiators, UPVC, ceramic wall tiles (we recommend avoiding very wet areas like shower/bath surrounds). Here is some useful information about painting tiles. Can be used for internal walls – in this case, thinning with up to 10% tap water is advised to ease application. Ensure surfaces are in suitable condition for painting and clean, dry, free from wax, grease of penetrating substances and in sound condition. If previously painted, remove loose or flaking paint. Fill any holes/imperfections with a suitable filler.Rust-Oleum 302595 Chalked Paint Spray dries to the touch after only 20 minutes, ensuring effective coverage of around 12 square feet of surface. Furthermore, this spray chalk paint is effective in one coat across almost every surface, leaving you with a smooth, ultra-matte professional finish. When applying your chalk paint to your furniture or item of choice, applying chalk paint with a paintbrush may leave you with a thorough application, although you will need to be careful that you do not leave visible brush strokes across your furniture. If painting a wooden piece, then it may be useful for you to follow the grain of the wood to achieve a more natural application. Our 20 year old cherry dresser had seen better days. The finish on the top of the dresser was scratched and marred in several areas. It is a quality piece of furniture that coordinated with the rest of our traditional red mahogany bedroom suite. Our bedroom was probably the one room in our home that didn’t reflect the coastal design of the rest of the house. As I’ve slowly been updating the bedroom, deciding what to do with the dresser was a problem. We couldn’t afford a new dresser so selling it was an option. I considered stripping it bare, but that task seemed daunting and I simply didn’t have the energy. Being the very impatient person I am, this makeover had to be fast and easy!

Recommended surface preparation in addition to the above – clean with Frenchic Sugar Soap, rinse, dry, hand-sand sufficiently to abrade the surface and/or to smooth any protrusions after filling. Wipe off any dust, paint away!

Step 5: (Optional) -The existing holes in the drawer fronts would not accommodate the new hardware I had chosen, so filling some holes was necessary.Fill any screw holes with wood filler and and after it drys, sand lightly to a smooth finish. Because wood filler has a tendency to shrink as it dries, I prefer to over fill the holes just slightly and then sand to a flat surface. The object is to make those filled holes disappear completely! Many people upcycle coffee tables, bookcases, and chests within their living room, dining tables and chairs within their dining room, and then wardrobes and chests of drawers within their bedrooms. Any color of chalk paint can be found to match your color scheme and the specific piece of furniture, transforming your home through one piece of upcycled furniture at a time. How to make Chalk Paint? If you want to wax your furniture after using chalk paint, wait at least 24 hours. Your chalk painted furniture will take around 30 days to fully cure, although you should be able to wax it after a full 24 hours. For new plaster, industry standard advice is to apply an initial mist coat - in which case you can thin Frenchic wall paint with tap water up to a maximum of 10%.

A 750ml tin will provide a single coat of up to 12.5m 2. For a durable finish, a minimum of 2 coats is required, so your 750ml tin should provide full coverage for just over 6m 2 on non-porous surfaces like laminate or metal. Limited Edition 500ml tins will provide a single coat of up to 8. 5m 2 . Before using chalk paint, ensure that you have thoroughly cleaned the item and the surface. Ensure that the item is fully dry. Most chalk paint does not require you to sand the item or to use a primer. However, such additional preparation will not hurt your project and may enhance the results.

Surface preparation required in addition to the above – clean with Frenchic Sugar Soap, rinse and dry thoroughly. Hand-sand sufficiently to abrade the surface. Wipe off any dust, paint away! For a great demonstration, see our video. Porous, or ‘thirsty’ surfaces like bare wood or MDF, tend to absorb paint meaning additional coats are likely to be required to achieve a durable finish. In this case, your 750ml tin will provide less than 6m 2 of full coverage. If you apply the paint too thinly, durability may be affected. Please note that color accuracy can be difficult to gauge on a computer monitor or phone. 12 Captivating Blue Chalk Style Paint Colors
