About this deal

Horses are remarkable creatures that require special care when it comes to skin and overall well-being. Maintaining healthy horse skin and protecting it from various skin diseases, infections, and pests is of paramount importance to keep horses vital and happy. Neem oil, a derivative of the neem tree (Azadirachta indica), provides natural protection and care for horse skin, offering a range of benefits. By conditioning it, it can revitalize and strengthen dull, frizzy hair to regain its luster and strength. Neem Oil has many beneficial properties, including the ability to heal red, itchy, inflamed, acne-prone, burn-prone, eczema-prone, psoriasis-prone, and rashes-prone skin. There are botanical similarities between the Neem tree and the Mahogany tree. The region is mostly composed of bright, dry areas of Southeast Asia, as well as tropical and sub-tropical regions in the tropics and the Caribbean. The tree benefits the environment because it produces more oxygen than other trees, neutralizes soil acidity, and contributes to increased soil fertility. Producers sometimes leave seed cleaning to fruit bats and birds in some areas. The spread of neem trees causes them to look like weeds, but they do not directly affect the growth of actual weeds. A powerful natural remedy, neem powder is available in a variety of forms and can help with a variety of skin problems. It is an excellent ingredient for skincare because it is high in antioxidants and has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties. What is the correct dosage of neem powder? If you want to make a scrub mask, combine neem powder, besan, and turmeric, emulsifying it with rose water, and massaging it into your face for about five minutes in circular motions. After applying the paste to your face, allow it to sit on your face for 20 minutes. Apply neem powder and a few drops of grapeseed oil to dry skin to make it a moisturizer. Your skin will be hydrated, and your complexion will be glowing, thanks to the combination of these ingredients. Pro Equine Neem Oil The oil’s anti-inflammatory properties reduce swelling and pain, while the restorative Vitamin E (and amino acids) work to reverse damage and promote tissue growth and hair regeneration. Spraying: Gently spray the diluted neem oil onto the horse's skin and coat, ensuring even coverage of the entire body, especially areas where pests often gather.

Applying a few drops to the tail and mane of horses suffering from summer itching will instantly provide relief.

Homemade Horsefly Repellent

To get a more enduring effect you need to go up-market to the only natural oil with a lasting effect – oil of lemon eucalyptus. (Note that this is not the same as lemon eucalyptus oil which is used by aromatherapists and is not a useful repellent). To obtain oil of lemon eucalyptus, the lemon eucalyptus oil must be refined and purified to increase the proportion of the active repellent component, p menthane 3,8 diol or PMD. This makes it more akin to a synthetic repellent in that it is high in the active ingredient and low in unwanted impurities. However, it is still a natural product. There are only a few outlets in the UK where you can obtain the refined version and they have trademarked their product eg citriodiol and citrepel and so are very expensive. As with most things, you get what you pay for – 7 or more hours of efficient repellency against midges and mosquitoes . There are plenty of products around (eg Mosi-guard, Care Plus) which contain this natural repellent but they tend to be pricey . As far as I know, the only one which has been developed specifically using a combination of neem oil and citriodiol is Neem Repel Gel which has 8% citriodiol/citrepel and 8% neem oil. The essential oil is very expensive to obtain as it has to be processed intensively to extract the small proportion of active repellent and, as with all essential oils, the duration is limited and the product must be re-applied frequently. Having said that, its fragrance is so delicious that it is worth using on oneself for its dual properties as both a perfume and an insect repellent! It does turn up as the main active in a few insect repellents, eg Stop-Bite, but is used in most products to enhance midge repellency. These pesky insects rip into horse skin and inject harmful saliva while eating blood. Horses’ skin reacts to the insect bites by causing irritations and inflammations around the ears, tail, croup and chin. The summer itch can be very uncomfortable for horses. There is not much the horse can do to stop it. Neem oil has many uses. It is a versatile substance with beneficial medicinal properties. It is used commonly to treat skin infections, minor injuries and fungal or bacterial skin conditions.

Neem is a vegetable oil like rape seed or olive oil. Like all vegetable oils it is a very complex mixture of compounds so is very variable in consistency, colour and smell depending upon its origin and how it is extracted. The seeds of the neem tree, indigenous to India and well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties, are used to extract the oil. Neem oil has proven to be extremely beneficial in treating horses during the warmer months. According to studies conducted by neem oil, horses can benefit from its better efficacy than cortisone. Neem oil is used to protect horses from the onslaught of summer itch. midges are a common source of worry for horses due to a disease known as summer seasonal recurrent dermatitis (SSRD), or sweet itch, which causes an irritating condition known as dermatitis. Neem oil, in addition to being insect repellent, can be used as a general insect and mosquito preventative. If you’re worried about midge bites on your belly, face, or ears, use undiluted neem oil to combat them. Is Neem Oil safe for use in Organic Gardening? Logan Hailey, a Certified Organic Gardening Expert, discusses neem oil, whether it’s safe to use in traditional gardens, and whether or not you can garden organically using it. Neem oil is a biopesticide and natural fungicide made from tropical trees. This ingredient is known as azadirachtin, and it is found in neem. Neem is effective against pests such as aphids, whiteflies, mites, leafminers, and pillbugs. In addition to controlling bad nematodes, it keeps them at bay by spraying them at the base of the plants. Aside from fungicidal activities, it also aids in the prevention of fungal disease.

When the flies and other nasties are really bad, mix a solution of one part Neem Oil to 50 parts warmish water and sponge (or spray) over your horse. Horses should only stand outside on the pasture until the beginning of the twilight. At this time of the mosquitoes are very active and therefore a big danger animals. Neem can reduce post-acne scarring and inflammation, as well as balance oil production, heal wounds, stimulate collagen formation, and minimize skin damage. It is a natural alternative that can be used to regenerate skin tissues from within and to reduce hyperpigmentation and scars. To protect sensitive areas such as the ears and belly from biting midges, apply undiluted Neem oil. It will repel biting insects and soothe itchy irritations caused by midges saliva. General Skin Care for Horses

Blend with other base oils when blending neem oil it is recommended to start with just a few drops and increase the amount slowly, to no more than 5% of the total blend. Always buy cold pressed neem oil. Applying just a teaspoon Neem oil (5 ml) to a litre of water makes a really effective spray for such pests as Aphids, Whiteflies, Snails, Root Knot Nematodes and even Mealybugs.Neem oil should not be used on herbs such as basil, caraway, cilantro, marjoram, dill, oregano, parsley, or thyme. A good rule of thumb to follow when spraying neem oil on delicate or fluttering leaves, such as arugula, lettuce, peas, spinach, and others, is to do so with caution. You can also use the oil to prevent mosquito bites. Neem oil can be mixed with other essential oils, but it is best to use the oil alone. Incidentally, if the conditions are really wet, and mud fever is a possibility, we would suggest covering your horse’s legs, at least from hoof to knee, with pure Neem Oil before turning him out.)
