Tap them, and you’ll perform a short pass to a player close by. Hold them and you’ll toss the ball further afield. The trouble is, in the heat of the moment it can be really hard to get the distance just right, especially with the cursor gaining speed the longer you press a button. The Paris-based development studio has used all its expertise in sports games( Handball 21, Rugby 18and Rugby 20)and is making many improvements to this latest simulation. This includes more realistic AI, improved difficulty that adapts better to each player’s level, and more lifelike star-player faces – especially on the latest-generation consoles – thanks to the use of photogrammetry. It is very playable and has a good selection of teams the best of which are naturally New Zealand.

Many players look like they do in real life and the commentary is also good. The new kits for the national teams look stylish and modern adding a realistic feel to the game.Not necessarily the best, not even necessarily good, but it was the first and was a lot of fun to play, especially with friends. Those classic SEGA sounds also make it amazing to play. Rugby union may have seen a few titles made by smaller publishers since the likes of Codemasters and EA Sports lost interest, but nothing really jumps out as a good game.
