About this deal

a recollection of an exorcist's day-to-day life. It's not even a recollection of an exorcist's job!; a fairytale-natured book aiming to sow the seeds of false optimism and arrogance about human's power over the demons. an honest (neither exaggerating nor underestimating) description about the nature of demons and demonic activities;

An Exorcist Tells His Story was the perfect length for a seven-hour (approximately) car trip my husband and I took yesterday including pauses for discussion. We were held captive by the book from start to finish. The stories, of exorcists facilitating exorcisms, all just sounds like... they're just copying each other, without even knowing whether the practice is safe, true, real, beneficial, helpful, healthy, and within Spiritual standards, which is - "In God's word." This book is included in the screenplay for The Pope’s Exorcist, with Russell Crowe, which has been out in theaters about 3 weeks now. The other book is Amorth’s An Exorcist Tells His Story. Friedkin, William (31 October 2016). "The Devil and Father Amorth: Witnessing "the Vatican Exorcist" at Work". Vanity Fair.It is not as sensational as one might expect, though it is still fascinating- but its true importance and interest lie in its exposition of the fact that the devil and demons do exist, and that they are actively battling to win our souls for Hell. We must fight for our salvation with prayer, fasting, and the sacraments. This book is an excellent wake up call to humanity and to bishops who do not believe in the activity of demons and are not helping their faithful in need of exorcisms- a very sad time in the Church. The author also exposes many of the means by which we open the doors to the evil one, for example, wicca, the ouija board, even astrology- some things which a great deal of people engage in and believe to be perfectly innocent and good. Fr. Amorth is an extremely talented, holy and humble priest. He’s not a writer first, but this is still an unforgettable and important book, one that more people would do well to read and take seriously. It was first published in 1990—over 30 years ago—and things have not improved since. Amorth wrote two memoirs of his time as an exorcist - An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories. The books include references to the official Roman Catholic teachings on demonology while the main emphasis is on Amorth's experience as an exorcist. Both include references to the diagnosis and treatment of spiritual problems. The books briefly cover the topics of demonic contraction and curses. [17] He states, "A curse can originate from such things as maledictions by close relatives, a habit of blaspheming, membership in Freemasonry, spiritic or magic practices, and so on." [20] I frankly think despite the author's claims the book contains many exaggerations. Here I include his claims of performing over 30 000 exorcisms during the course of nine years, which means over 9 per day every day without rest. Yet less than a 100 turned out to be cases of actual demonic possession. Written 30 years ago by ‘the Pope’s Exorcist’, Father Amorth’s book is a long, wandering introduction to the work of exorcism. The good Father Amorth invested most of his life in caring for the oppressed and possessed. He claims to have done well over 30,000 exorcisms. Unfortunately, this book is like a poor man’s beef stew. It is watery and only has the rare piece of meat to it. The practical aspects that he promises are, sadly, few and far between. Amorth’s exorcism ministry didn’t formally begin until he was 61 and was unexpectedly appointed exorcist of the Diocese of Rome in 1986. He enthusiastically took to this new vocation, serving as an assistant to notable exorcist Father Candido Amantini. An Exorcist: More Stories" by Gabriele Amorth is a compelling continuation of his exploration into the realm of exorcism. Building upon the foundation laid in his previous book, Amorth offers a deeper dive into his experiences as an exorcist, sharing additional stories, insights, and reflections on the spiritual battle against evil forces.One thing I was surprised to learn was how much demons suffer during exorcisms and yet, not so much as they will in hell. Amorth, Gabriele (2000). The Gospel of Mary: a month with the Mother of God. New York: Alba House. ISBN 0-8189-0871-8. OCLC 41439576.

Fr. Amorth's stated purpose in writing this book is to let people know that the devil is real, and the battle against him is ongoing. He hopes that bishops and other priests will again take seriously the difficult task of the exorcist and work to defeat the devil. He also reminds the general public of the reality of this problem, and how one may become subject to demonic influences. This includes even what most people think of as totally innocuous, such as the persistent use of foul language.

An Exorcist Explains the Demonic: The Antics of Satan and His Army of Fallen Angels - published on October 20, 2016, by Sophia Press At a conference in 2011, he denounced yoga as “the devil’s work” because it leads people to Hinduism and other religions based on what he saw as the false idea of reincarnation. He also said the devil is in the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling, because its plot centered around magic. Books and Documentary He’s dealing with the afflicted all the time… I was just very attracted to that, you know,” Crowe said, “because like, it’s such a serious gig. But at the same time, he was so goofy. I really liked that combination.” He also outlined the ritual itself was diagnostic. “Only through the exorcism itself can we determine with certainty whether there is a satanic influence,” he said. Amorth’s claim of performing over 60,000 exorcisms requires further investigation. In his biography An Exorcist Tells His Story Amorth clarified an exorcism was an individual prayer or ritual ranging anywhere from “a few minutes” to “many hours” in length. He could thereby perform dozens of exorcisms per day, usually on troubled souls appearing on his doorstep.

The books use witness accounts and personal experience as evidence. Modern popular culture was also an affront to Amorth. He railed against ouija boards, yoga and Harry Potter, believing them to be a gateway to the demonic. Amorth led a colourful life. As a teenager, he was part of the Italian resistance against the Nazis and their fascist collaborators. After the war, he studied law and was briefly deputy to the future Italian prime minister Giulio Andreotti. Despite performing an absurdly high number of exorcisms— once claiming as many as 160,000—Amorth said fewer than 100 involved true demonic possession. In such instances, Amorth said the possessed would spit out shards of glass, pieces of metal, rose petals, and other items. He kept a collection of plastic figurines, nails, and keys as proof. He also said he witnessed feats of superhuman strength, like an 11-year-old boy hurling away three police officers with ease.
