About this deal

I like hunting in Steel Canyon. It’s generally not to tough to run around the zone and find a dozen in a couple of minutes. Might be one you’ll want to do in more than session. For arcs, the first two Hollows arcs, Officer Wincott and Flux, work well with large team sizes. Plus you get to slide around in the Frostfire mission. stars equals “Meh.” I will not read this book again, it had a lot of problems and I did not care for it. A number of badges require you to kill a certain number of enemies. Most of these are listed as Defeat badges, although some are counted as Gladiator badges as well. There are a number of different strategies for getting hunting badges – street sweeping, farming specific missions, or getting the badges naturally through running content. Depending on the specific badge and your goal, the best option may be different. If you are specifically targeting a certain badge then farming specific missions or street sweeping are probably preferable, but if you are a generic badge collector, I’d focus on playing other content before targeting any specific badge.

Thoughts on City of Thorns (The Demon Queen Trials, Book 1 My Thoughts on City of Thorns (The Demon Queen Trials, Book 1

As Rawlence writes, for every individual living this hell, there are small things that tip the balance, precipitating them over the edge into illness or despair, and those small things are both material and psychological. You can feel the constant fear of violence wearing away at fragile minds, and the material deprivation wearing away at bodies that have often been damaged even before they arrive at the camp. The deep human investment in creating some semblance of family life is one of the most striking themes in this book, and it is moving, but it comes with a price. Rawlence describes men driven mad by the impossibility of fulfilling the expectations they have of themselves – to provide a decent life for their wives and children. In the wake of Westgate and UN budgetary cuts, and the worsening crisis in Syria, camp rations are cut by half, and we watch with Rawlence as men starve themselves to save food for their children and pregnant wives. Crawford came up under my recommendations for Kindle Unlimited when I was looking for something new to read. The description seemed interesting and was recommended for readers that liked Laura Thalassa, Sarah J. Maas, and Jennifer L. Armentrout. All authors that I have enjoyed reading in the past. So, I thought I would give this book a go while I wait for new releases to come out that I’m looking forward to. Synopsis City of Thorns is a powerful and timely reminder of how unresolved conflicts, from Somalia to Syria, have contributed to the unprecedented global refugee crisis. Ben Rawlence's intimate, vivid portrait of the forgotten refugees in Dadaab is a much needed effort to close the humanity gap between the West and the rest. A must-read."—Kim Ghattas, author of The Secretary: A Journey with Hillary Clinton from Beirut to the Heart of American PowerEmployment is what everyone wants, but employment (at least of the formal kind) is the very thing that is denied you as a refugee. The people of Dadaab find various ways round this. The refugees employ each other: there is plenty of exploitation in this, but also a strong sense of the need for mutual support. The agencies, meanwhile, circumvent their own rules by creating what they call “incentive positions”, low-paid jobs for auxiliary workers in education and health and administration that create the makings of a camp middle class. These are the sort of reasons why millions of people end up as refugees. Guled and his wife, Maryam, are among the lives chronicled in this outstanding glimpse into the shattered and insecure lives of those on the frontline of the global migration crisis. They end up in Dadaab, the world’s biggest refugee camp, which is a place of abuse, brutality, hunger and fear – supposedly fed and protected by the United Nations. City of Thorns takes place in modern day Massachusetts with one exception. Centuries before our story takes place the Demon War and peace treaty was put into place with the Puritans. Since then Demons have been confined to their own cities located all across the world. These cities are bound only by the treaty but governed by their own kings. King Cambriel is exactly what I would expect a Demon King to be so it’s hard to hate him all that much because it feels like he’s just doing what nature expects. However, he is an arrogant ass with an entitlement problem. City of Thorns is a good book and I’m looking forward to reading the remainder of the series. I hope it continues to get better because I see a lot of amazing potential in this story line.

City of Thorns: Nine Lives in the World’s Largest Refugee

Perez Park is best. The groups often have 10-12 Skulls in them as opposed to the smaller groups in King’s Row. Bosses are also more abundant so you can work on Bonecrusher simultaneously. Madeleine Casey - level 45 - 'To Save a Soul' story arc - The second mission of this (somewhat lengthy) story arc will spawn 3 Master Illusionists when set at -1x2. High damage output characters might end up waiting a bit for the cooldown between Master Illusionists, but its certainly possible to farm this one as well. Note that one of the Master Illusionists is named 'The Soothsayer' and also that this arc is available via Ouroboros (level 45 range, mission number 1.01). Hunting in Talos Island, particularly Helen Point, is the way to go, but these guys will show up in basically any Tsoo content. Can be kind of a pain, but you’ll probably get this before the Ancestor Spirits.

I would have liked to have a bit more world building and character development. Our main character goes from awkward to super spy in zero time and I would have liked to see that play out a bit differently. Maybe more urgency or stronger feelings would have worked. Originally they appeared in Talos Island Safeguard and Siren's Call. Now, they also appear in Dark Astoria, which makes getting this badge a breeze. By the time you finish the DA arc, you should -easily- have this badge. I like the Safeguard mission option as both Steel Canyon and Independence Port offer them. Other than that, a run between the train stations in Independence Port can yield up to 10-15 of these guys, but you can sometimes get shut out as well. Striga Isle is an option, and you can hunt Warrior Bosses there as well. Any Arachnos related content that’s level 25 or lower works great. Any higher than that, you tend to get other, stronger types of Arachnos mobs. Most of that is going to be redside, but the Faultline arcs and Aaron Thiery’s arc are quality blueside choices. If you are hunting them outside of missions, Faultline or Cap au Diable are the best choices.

City of Thorns Summary | SuperSummary

Little wonder some set sights on risky escape to Europe; others head to Nairobi, where they are so routinely harassed, raped and ripped off, many return to Dadaab. One study found half al-Shabaab recruits motivated by police brutality. Rawlence is no misty-eyed romantic as he reports on the trade in ration cards, the rewriting of refugee stories, the industry springing up to broker resettlement slots, the war criminals ending up on western streets – even the attraction of British child benefit. Yet such is the disparity between us and “them” that as one UN lawyer says: “If I can get one person resettled, I have helped 500.” These are stories that need to be heard. Our main character is Rowan and the entire book is from her point of view. She describes her style as Puritan Goth and is currently going for a degree in Psychology. See the Ember Legacy of Flame entry for where to find Legacy Chain. 200 lieutenants is a large amount, so you will likely have to hunt in Mercy Island to finish this off if you don’t want to repeatedly farm the same content. In City of Thorns: Nine Lives in the World’s Largest Refugee Camp, author Ben Rawlence offers a glimpse into conditions at Dadaab in Kenya, and the fates of nine individuals who live there. It’s home to 350,000 residents scraping by in desperate conditions. Dadaab is known as a humanitarian crisis and as a breeding ground for terrorists due to the political and social forces that leave residents stranded there. The book was published in the UK in 2016. Rawlence spent seven years working for the Human Rights Watch and is the author of several books on human rights violations in various parts of Africa. While out celebrating her birthday the Lord of Chaos, Orion, shows up at her bar. In a case of mistaken identity Orion kidnaps her. Once she’s in the City of Thorns though, Rowan will do anything she can to stay and find her mother’s killer.

I also stream a variety of things over on Twitch with stream highlights and VODs posted on my YouTube Channel, and clips shared on my Clips YouTube Channel. Just run the Dark Astoria arcs and you should get it – Sister Solaris is probably the best overall. Hunting in Dark Astoria is fine if you need a couple. The Dadaab refugee camp is many things: to the charity workers, it’s a humanitarian crisis; to the Kenyan government, a “nursery for terrorists”; to the Western media, a dangerous no-go area. But to its half a million residents, it’s their last resort. Stars equals I am buying a physical copy of this book. I will read this book at least 10 more times, it is the best ever. star equals a bad book. I barely finished this book and I will never recommend anyone waste valuable book reading time on this book.

These enemies are rather abundant – many arcs and task forces involve Devouring Earth and basically all Devouring Earth groups have some of these guys. I wouldn’t worry too much about this badge as you’ll likely get it pursuing other badges. For the devoted, Power Island in Independence Port is my personal favorite hunting ground, but Talos Island has a few nice hunting spots, and Eden can be good as well. If you are looking for missions, there are a number of Devouring Earth arcs available through Ouroboros – I haven't found any mission that only spawns these guys as opposed to other minions, but they seem to be the most common DE minion spawn. The mission Defend the Base! from Levantera at X/8 difficulty spawns hundreds of them. I only need to reset the mission twice to get the badge. That Rawlence has managed to capture so much of this unlikely city’s chaos and confusion in a narrative that is very nearly impossible to put down is an achievement in reportage that few have matched. Dadaab’s half a million residents could not have asked for a better champion than this researcher for Human Rights Watch, and while the facts and figures he shares are stunning, it is the nine individuals whose stories he focuses on who give the book its heart....Comparisons to Katherine Boo’s Behind the Beautiful Forevers (2012) are spot-on."— Booklist (starred review) Part of me feels bad for Nama because she’s viewed as being out of her mind when she’s mostly correct about a situation. However, after what she pulls in Chapter 36 all that empathy goes right out the window. I also feel like her behavior doesn’t fit with what she is, but I’m not going to dive too much into her issues. If you are an avid badge hunter, the Shadow Shard Task Forces are best if you run them with a max team. If you plan to run all four of the Shard TFs, you'll get there for sure. I would not bother with street sweeping for these, as even in the Shadow Shard, these are fairly uncommon. Somali boys fetch water from a puddle in Dadaab.
