About this deal

Left with scars and memory loss from her ordeal, Chelsea relies on her trusted friend Elizabeth to help manage her way forward in the aftermath, but nightmares and sightings of him persist....AND the creepy notes begin. In this stimulating book that eloquently describes the effects of one’s biography on mind, brain, and body, Nakazawa guides us through a step by step path to recovery. This work represents an invaluable source of hope and inspiration for anyone who is suffering from the aftermath of early adverse experience.” This is the ABSOLUTE perfect novel to read right now with Halloween being right around the corner ;). Increasingly, I devoted my skills as a science journalist to helping women with chronic illness, writing about the intersection between neuroscience, our immune systems, and the innermost workings of our human hearts. I investigated the many triggers of disease, reporting on chemicals in our environment and foods, genetics, and how inflammatory stress undermines our health. I reported on how going green, eating clean, and practices like mind-body meditation can help us to recuperate and recover. At health conferences I lectured to patients, doctors, and scientists. My mission became to do all I could to help readers who were caught in a chronic cycle of suffering, inflammation, or pain to live healthier, better lives.

Life of a Jew in the Auschwitz concentration camp, as written by a Jew who survived Auschwitz concentration camp. Hubert Selby, Jr. just has a way of ripping out your soul and shitting on it. Amazing and heartbreaking book.” – Readers quote The Halloween night that her college roommates (Christine and Amy) had been murdered and she had been carved up and left for dead.

There's only one thing that keeps eating at me... what happened to Chelsea's scrapbook? In chapter 4 her scrapbook goes missing, but I don't recall reading what happened to it?

Erin wrote: "I think that it is ridiculous and completely sacrilegious that someone would put the bible on this list! It doesn't matter if you do not agree with their religion or not things like this are just rude" In what might be an ironic twist of fate, it’s the dark and disturbing books that teach one to be optimistic. No matter how bad your life is, at least you aren’t eaten from the inside out by hungry rats. Those were the words on Nov 1, 2010, the morning after Halloween. Three women who attended Springfield College. 911 was called. The young officer Brandon was the first responder. Seeing Red: The autobiography of the actress Coral Atkins and her battles with and on behalf of disturbed children There's so many ways this story could have gone, I slowly started to put the pieces together. At about 60% into the book I was certain where it was headed, and I was correct. Though I must admit, briefly I started to change my mind. I thought maybe the story was headed in a different direction, but soon realized that's what Jennifer Jaynes wants the reader to think. Well played Jennifer, well played. Even though I had predicted where it was headed, I was not at all disappointed with how it played out. This is a great psychological thriller!Ryan Herringa, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health Two teenage girls come into the care of their aunt and her three sons. After an initially happy welcome, their relationships degenerate into a hateful cycle of violence. While I did figure out the who, Jaynes tripped me up with a stellar twist that was brilliant. I love when the reveal feels like an "aha moment" and is delivered with believability. Disturbed was my first Jennifer James book and I look forward to reading/listening to more of them. The prologue shares a tragic event that occurred on Halloween Night five years ago. Chelsea Dutton’s college roommates were viciously stabbed to death, and Chelsea was found critically injured in the bathtub. The story fasts forwards to the present where Chelsea is dealing with the aftermath. The killer someone they all knew was never found and events from that night are still a blur even in her nightmares. To learn everything I could, I spent two years interviewing the leading scientists who research and study the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences and toxic childhood stress. I combed through seventy research papers that comprise the ACE Study and hundreds of other studies from our nation’s best research institutions that support and complement these findings. And I followed thirteen individuals who suffered early adversity and later faced adult health struggles, who were able to forge their own life-changing paths to physical and emotional healing.

A psychotic bureaucrat captures a young art student and holds her captive in the basement of his country house. This book wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. Creepy yes, but not really scary. It was also a bit bloody, but nothing too disgusting which made me feel a little better. The book starts with a bang! A cop arrives on scene and finds two college girls brutally murdered in their apartment while a 3rd girl, Chelsea, is just barely clinging to life while hiding in the bath tub. Oh what a creepy read this is. It fits in very well for this time of year. I liked that the story was fast paced but it did not skip on any attention to detail while doing so. There's plenty of twists to keep your attention but the author saved the best twist till the end, and I certainly did not see that coming. This is the first book I have read by this author and I will be looking out for more from her in the future. I want to thank NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for this opportunity. I had this read in a matter of hours, so I'm happy to say my second experience with this author was much better than my first! ( The Stranger Inside and I didn't get along well)

Jason wrote: "My favorite extreme horror novel is SURVIVOR by JF Gonzalez. I also really like Teratologist by Ed lee, Poisoning Eros by White/O'Rourke, and Succulent Prey by White. Chelsea has been living, barely, a very reclusive life since being the sole survivor of the gruesome murders of her roommates while she was in college. Thankfully she has her lifeline and only friend, Elizabeth to help her cope with the aftereffects and memory loss of the horrifying event. I've read several books by this author, and this was another one I really enjoyed. It's a fast-paced psychological thriller, I read it in one sitting. Once again I thought I had everything all figured out, but nope! The new science on Adverse Childhood Experiences and toxic stress has given us a new lens through which to understand the human story; why we suffer; how we parent, raise, and mentor our children; how we might better prevent, treat, and manage illness in our medical care system; and how we can recover and heal on a deeper level than we thought possible.

A religious sect overthrows the USA government and institutes a religious dictatorship where women capable of reproduction are used as child making slaves. Visit BookSleuth Right so i love really gory and bloody books and some of the recommendations down below say some are 'twisted' i'm guessing 'twisted' is dark and i'm not that old so should i just go or 'horror' not 'extreme horror' books? Haha, you jumped in just before I could! Exactly what I was going to say - together, we'll up it's popularity as a truly disturbing book, cl..."
