About this deal

Don't scoff at those old 16 x 50 binoculars as some had excellent resolution even though the coatings were poor. The Japanese ones were very good and probably still work when some of the modern Chinese cheapies have long hit the dust.

Waterloo Road is set and made in Greater Manchester, and produced by the award-winning Wall To Wall in co-production with Rope Ladder Fiction. Lindsay Williams is the Series Producer, with Adam Leatherland and Nasreen Ahmed as Producers and Si Wall as Story Producer. However, this spec was also used by the Wehrmacht (Army) and Luftwaffe (Air Force) as well

For less than what a good original 8 x 60 will fetch, one could have at least two Busch design 45 deg inclination 10 x 80 multicoated ( and not just "broadband" single layer MgF2). What would one pay for that? Several people, myself included, have for years been suggesting a copy of this "tall one", or the"fat one", but without the aspheric eyepieces. Has anyone seen the plans? Or did they go to KOMZ or the plant in Novosibirsk when CZ Jena was dismantled by the Russians? found new owners via optical retailers and army surplus stores. We love that the show has the potential not only to be a crown jewel for BBC iPlayer, but also serve as a true beacon for training, and inspiring next generation talent. In addition to our open auditions and full-time production trainee placements for industry newcomers, our workshops across Greater Manchester this Summer for 14-16 year olds, in partnership with BBC Young Reporter, have truly demonstrated the infectious power of this show." They had specialised use in wartime and were possibly issued to artillary squadrons. Senior officers may have also used this type of binocular.

First off, here's a comment made bu user Ken31 on the Stargazers Lounge forum, in the Astro Lounge sub forum, in the thread entitled "Lidl 8x60 Binoculars" by RyanL. The rapid progress in powders and Paul Mauser's bullets was burning out barrels, so they deepened the grooves, taking the bores from .318 inch to .323 officially, but some were .321. The older GeW88s and Turkish Mausers which were recut had their throats lengthened to reduce peak pressures. From then on, the chamber specs settled down. After 1940 the German military wanted to keep the manufacturers' names secret. I am not sure if the motivation was fear of allied bombing or to disguise manufacturers in Binoculars used by the German military in the Second World War were made by a huge number of makers. I don't know enough to comment on the tech detail beyond what I read here on the forum, so I know that BK-7 is referring to the internal prisms at least. Thought it would be good to here from experts here so anyone who might like a punt on a set of these would have more information to go on, beyond the usual sensible advice of testing a set in store before you buy.

you will certainly see more with your current 10 x 50 than if you buy the 8 x 60 although some people of your age still have 7 mm pupils in a dark sky.

I have been making these Cases now for over 10 years, without any chambering problems at all. My commercial outlet has also distributed over 1,000 Krop/Guedes cases over a similar period without any complaints. Early binoculars were made from brass. Later ones were made from an alloy of magnesium and aluminium, which was extremely light. Towards the end of the War binoculars ones, but do not have a maker's mark, a letter code or the word 'Dienstglas'. They are just marked 6x30. My thoughts are that these were made after the War for the surplus These are the most practical size for modern applications such as bird watching or spectator sport.
