The Edifier has very balanced highs and mids, each offering a fairly flat response. Rather than be a detriment, these flat responses make them ideal for producers, as they are able to use their monitors to listen to music without worrying about sound coloration altering what’s actually being heard. In each dimension, both speakers are equal. Dimensions of R1280db are 5.75(W) x 9.5(H) x 7(D) inches, and those of R1280e are 5.75(W) x 9.5(H) x 7(D) inches. 3. Connection Types For this reason, I preferred to dial down the bass and boost the treble just a little. This brings out dialogue and other higher-range detail without making the overall sound too loud. For day-to-day TV watching, an overly forward bass presence can be distracting.

And, while you’ll need either a subwoofer or a larger speaker if you want to really blast your music, for the vast majority of people – either casually or professionally – this is going to be plenty loud in closed settings.

The MDF cabinet helps prevent resonance, so you can place your speakers on any raised surface and enjoy music from anywhere in the room. Furthermore, the wood finish blends well with any furniture in the living. The design also includes a removable mesh grille that helps prevent dirt from entering the speakers while still giving the speakers an elegant look. What we like The Soundfield Spacializer does, however, make movies and TV shows a lot more cinematic. As it’s supposed to, as Edifier says, “produce a panoramic sound stage,” it isn’t surprising that it sounds better on videos than it does on music. We’d even go as far as to say that we prefer watching movies and shows with it on, as the alternative just sounds flatter. That said, if you are someone that constantly wants to sync your phone to anything and everything you can, or just like the convenience of flexible speaker placement, this may definitely be a bit of a frustrating point. Tuning Options

R1280DB fully considers user needs and shows us the profound design experience and technical precipitation of Edifier. Both speakers feature wooden fishing textures on their sides that give them a very decent appearance. Both speakers have EQ controls on their sides, and both are placed on a powered/active speaker. R1280DB’s high-frequency penetration is perfect, and the resolution is vital. Although the sound position will not be prominent at the front, it can make us feel its existence. That may be the interpretation of the sound of the R1280DB speaker set by the Edifier. While both models have satisfying tactile buttons and knobs, the added connectivity of the R1850DB and upgradability make it the winner here. Coming to the performance, I was pleasantly surprised with how good the R1280DBs sounded. It delivers a full sound with a lot of detail and character, with plenty of definition with the mids and highs and a controlled low-end. It does a good job with vocals and dialogues as well, producing good timber and clarity.Add in that you can also plug in several analogue and digital audio sources, connect your phone via Bluetooth and control the lot with a remote control, and you have a super-convenient one-stop audio upgrade. You may think this a small issue but I found the volume adjustment to be overly smooth and subtle, such that it was quite difficult to immediately tell the difference, making it all too easy to press the volume button too many times before realising the volume had changed. The bass reflex ports have been moved to the front to allow for more flexible positioning without sacrificing any bass response. The side panel functions allow you to tweak the bass, the treble, and volume control with your fingertips via the dedicated EQ and volume knobs.

Given the size and heft of these speakers compared with most PC speakers, it’s reasonable to expect a powerful and full sound – and sure enough the Edifier R1280DB deliver the goods. There’s more than enough volume for any PC setup and plenty to fill a modest-sized living room too. Considering this is something pretty unique to the R1280DB, it’s pretty clear that they are really trying to appease both the casual as well as the professional listener. While it does cost more, the added flexibility for home theater integration and upgradability down the line is an excellent bonus. I’ve been using these speakers for about a month now, and I must say, I’m genuinely impressed! As an experienced DJ, I tend to be extremely particular about speaker audio quality, balance, and tonality.

Each bookshelf speaker is fitted with a 4-inch woofer dedicated to the low-end frequencies. The bass sounds natural with no boominess to distract you from enjoying your music. Additionally, the unit provides up to 42 watts RMS (21 watts each) for room-filling and undistorted sound. The mid-frequency part of the Edifier R1280DB is relatively delicate. Therefore, it does not show the vocals in the mid-frequency part with a substantial degree of solidity like many traditional 2.0 speakers.
