Manufactured in the UK, Pedaldish has been designed and built to be used every day, and to last for many years. At the very start of this year, we headed down to Burgtec HQ for its own house show where it showed off a bunch of new products from Greg Minnaar signature grips, bearing upgrades for rear shocks, to these new composite pedals. Peter (or Pet with an ‘e’) Hill was a councilor in Wales when he realized he was wasting so much money every time he put wet catfood into a conventional bowl for his cat. TEC-Angel is currently doing well and won the Integrated Home Award at the 2019 Smart Home Expo at the National Exhibition Center in Birmingham.

It was watching Dragon’s Den that Peter decided to take his entrepreneurial efforts to the next level. I’m absolutely thrilled to have successfully pitched in the Dragons’ Den and grateful to Pets at Home for believing in my product from the start. I believe everyone has one brilliant product or idea in their mind and whilst Pedaldish is something I am really proud of, I think my best is yet to come. I really wanted to make a product that would make life better, but also be environmentally friendly, because I knew that would motivate me to be more successful.

While some of you might instantly associate Burgtec with the likes of 50:01 and mucking about in the woods, the composite Penthouse Mk4 is a versatile pedal that works well in every environment, trail and weather condition you can think of and came back asking for more. I modified a pedal bin, fitted it with a ramp and taught my cats to step onto it when they wanted to eat. Yup, they look a lot like the current Burgtec Penthouse Mk4 pedal, in fact, they look almost exactly the same, so what’s different? In fact, some investments fell through after the show and some were scoffed at, bottles were thrown and a Dragon broke a strap of a suitcase. He spent two years modifying his design before funding from Worcestershire County Council’s Proof of Concept programme helped him to subsidise the first 3,000 products, now on sale exclusively at Pets at Home. The ability to comment on our stories is a privilege, not a right, however, and that privilege may be withdrawn if it is abused or misused. He is now being booked for motivational speeches, business team building and much more alongside his Pedaldishes and Katfones.

Using parts from a pedal bin in his garage, he built a design which solved the problem by keeping food in a sealed container with a flap lid.The design of the Pedaldish means that cats and small dogs can open the lid by stepping onto the ramp and the container is also raised off the floor, so pets don’t have to crouch to eat, which is said to help them with digestion. Years later their son Nick would go on to make millions from Moonpig before taking his own chair in the Den.

The invention works with mechanical parts, does not need batteries, and can get wet so it is easily cleaned and won’t malfunction in the rain or during kitchen spills. Petvictus won highly commended in the challenge and Pete has been invited to speak at the next WINN Wednesday event on 21st November, where he is planning to inspire other local innovators with his personal journey. Worcester-based pet product inventor, Peter Hill, was seen securing an investment on BBC programme Dragons’ Den on Sunday 16 September for his innovative pet products ‘Pedaldish’ and ‘Katfone. As well as living life based on what he last read in a fortune cookie Andi likes nothing better than riding big travel bikes.
